About Mouse Button Test
A fast, honest tool for finding out whether your mouse is actually broken – before you spend money on a new one.
Why we built it
Most online click testers only count clicks. That is not enough to spot the most common mouse fault – a worn switch that sometimes turns one click into two. Mouse Button Test measures the exact time between releasing and pressing each button, draws every press on a live timeline, and tells you in plain language whether something is wrong.
How it measures
- Button presses and releases come from standard browser mouse events, timed with the high-resolution
performance.now()clock. - A press is flagged as chatter when it follows the previous release of the same button faster than the threshold you choose (50 ms by default).
- A scroll tick is flagged as a reversal when it goes the opposite way less than 80 ms after a steady run in one direction.
- Everything runs locally. No clicks are uploaded.
Browser timing is limited by your operating system and the mouse's USB polling rate, so readings are accurate to roughly 1–8 ms – plenty to catch switch bounce, which typically produces gaps under 30 ms.
