What is a CPS test?

CPS stands for clicks per second. A CPS test counts how many times you press the mouse button in a fixed time and divides by the number of seconds.

Gamers use it to train for titles where click speed matters – Minecraft PvP, clicker and idle games, and osu! – while others simply want to know how they compare. It is also a quick hardware check: if a fast burst of clicks produces a lower count than you expect, or the speed chart shows sudden gaps, the mouse switch or its connection may be dropping inputs.

Our test starts on your first click, so reaction time does not count against you. Short tests (1–5 s) measure your peak burst speed; the 30 and 60 second modes measure stamina, where most people drop 20–30% by the end.

What is a good CPS score?

10 – 13🦅 FalconJitter clicking

The average person scores around 6 CPS with a normal index-finger click. Anything above 10 CPS usually needs a special technique.

Clicking techniques explained

Regular clicking

One finger, normal presses. Comfortable and safe for your hand and mouse. Typically 5–8 CPS.

Jitter clicking

Tensing your forearm so the finger vibrates on the button. 10–14 CPS, but tiring and hard on the wrist – take breaks.

Butterfly clicking

Alternating two fingers on the same button. 15–25 CPS. Some mice register both fingers as separate clicks, which is why it counts so high.

Drag clicking

Sliding a finger across the button so friction makes it bounce many times. 25+ CPS, but only on mice with specific switches and textured surfaces.

Server rules: many Minecraft servers limit clicks to around 15–20 CPS and treat anything higher as auto-clicking. Butterfly and drag clicking may be banned on some servers – check the rules first.

How to click faster

  1. Rest your wrist on the desk and click from the finger, not the whole arm.
  2. Click with the fingertip near the front of the button, where travel is shortest.
  3. Stay relaxed. Tension makes you faster for two seconds and slower after that – watch your chart drop in the 10 s test.
  4. Aim for rhythm, not panic. A high consistency score usually means a higher CPS over longer tests.
  5. Use a light mouse with crisp switches. Optical switches and short-travel buttons help.
  6. Practise in short sets and stop if your hand or wrist hurts.

Reading the speed chart

Each bar shows how many clicks per second you managed in that slice of the test. A flat top means steady speed; a slope down means fatigue. A sudden empty bar in the middle of a fast run – when you know you kept clicking – points to a missed input, which can mean a failing switch, a weak wireless signal or a low battery. Run the mouse click test to check the switch for chatter too.

Rhythm consistency compares the time between each of your clicks. 100% would be a metronome. Most people land between 60% and 85%.

Frequently asked questions

What is the world record for CPS?

Records claimed online are above 100 CPS using drag clicking, but these depend heavily on the mouse. For normal single-finger clicking, 14–16 CPS is exceptionally fast.

Does my mouse affect my CPS score?

Yes. Button weight, switch type and travel distance all matter, and some mice filter out very fast repeat clicks (debounce), which caps butterfly and drag clicking.

Can clicking fast damage my mouse?

Every switch is rated for a number of clicks – usually 20 to 80 million – so normal testing will not hurt it. Heavy drag clicking can wear the button surface and switch faster.

Why does my score drop in longer tests?

Finger and forearm muscles tire quickly at high speed. The 30 and 60 second tests measure endurance, and a 20–30% drop from your 5 second score is normal.

Does right-click count?

No – like most CPS tests, only the left button (or a tap on touch screens) counts, so results are comparable.

Where is my personal best stored?

Only in your own browser's local storage, separately for each duration. Nothing is uploaded, and clearing your browser data removes it.
